The Ri Bhoi district magistrate has imposed Section 144 CrPC in and around the Umiam lake to ensure that the delicate ecology around it is not unduly disturbed.
The order passed today says that all construction work of at least within 100 meters of Umiam Lake requires permission from the state environmental impact assessment authority (SEIAA).
This was done in compliance to the High Court order to ensure that cleanliness of the lake be preserved.
Further, the order also said that the carrying of construction material must be regulated.
