After years of relative calm, it seems that militancy has resurfaced in the Garo Hills region, after a threat message was directed to chief minister Conrad Sangma and GHADC CEM, Rakesh Newar Sangma.
A threat message was posted by a group who claims to be the United Achik National Liberation Army Force (UANLAF) on social media.
One Rakga Marak who claims to be the president of the militant group posted a threat message in Garo language on facebook to shoot 20 rounds of AK 47 ammunition on the chest of the chief minister if he remains adamant to the ongoing demands to remove the GHADC CEM.
He also threatened the CEM to remain vigilant if he does not resign from his post.
For almost two decades, the Garo Hills region has been shadowed by militancy until most of the militant groups were tamed through counter-insurgency operations.
However, police sources have confirmed that activities have resurfaced.
Earlier, former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma had warned of outfits regrouping in the Garo Hills region.
