The five Congress MLAs who unilaterally decided to support the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government without prior consultation with the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, party MDCs or the high command in New Delhi could well face suspension.
This was stated by MPCC president and Shillong MP Vincent Pala at a press conference today. He stated that the high command is not in favour of the MLAs giving support to the MDA. The five might also have to answer a show-cause notice.
Two of the five – Mohendro Rapsang and Mayralborn Syiem – were present at the meeting and asked for more time to reply to any show-cause notice.
“To punish them is beyond my jurisdiction but it’s upon the higher authorities at the AICC (All India Congress Committee) to punish them,” Pala said. “Following this press conference I will be sending the views and suggestions given at today’s meeting.”
