The Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) have met with the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner to raise concern over the apparent free-for-all that truckers enjoy to load and unload their vehicles.
According to the FKJGP, commercial vehicles can be found at any hour unloading and loading commodities and supplies in Khliehriat and Lad Rymbai along National Highway 6.
The pressure group would like the DC to regulate the timing for such activities as trucks are often parked along the highway during the day on roadsides and footpaths, “drastically increasing the problems in these two areas where people, street vendors and pedestrians face a lot of difficulties” and risk personal injury, not to mention causing traffic jams.
The FKJGP wants unloading banned between 7am and 8pm in the interest of the public.
