Mawphlang-Diengiei MDC Lamphrang Blah is set to be elected unopposed as the new chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that the special session of KHADC will be held here tomorrow to elect the new chairman.
The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has unanimously nominated Blah for the post. He submitted his nomination papers on February 4.
UDA has 21 MDCs in the 30-member House. They include ten from NPP, seven from UDP, two from HSPDP, one from PDF and two independents.
The post of KHADC chairman has been lying vacant after NPP leader and member of district council (MDC) Pyniaid Syiem resigned from the post following his election as MLA from Mawryngkneng constituency.
Blah, a four-time MDC left the Congress and joined the NPP in October last year to contest the Assembly by-elections to Mawphlang Assembly constituency. However, he lost the by-polls.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress has decided not to field its candidate for the election to the post of chairman.
