Chief Minister Conrad Sangma claimed today that all those perpetrators of the Sunday improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Police Bazaar here have been arrested by police.
The CM made the announcement following a cabinet meeting. In all, four people have been arrested, though police are still conducting their investigations.
Those nabbed by police include one supposed area commander of the outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council and its supporters and sympathisers.
“The cabinet met to discuss the law and order situation in the state. All the people involved have been picked up. Investigation is going on and we will be moving forward into the network and into all the people whom they’ve been in touch with,” Sangma said, adding that this is so that the police mop up all those who may have been involved in the attack, though he reiterated that the people directly involved have been arrested.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger issued a statement on the arrest and said, “East Khasi Hills District Police tirelessly put an effort night and day to trace out and arrest the other involved culprits. Based on the information received from a reliable source, three other HNLC cadres were arrested on the forenoon of the 2nd February, 2022 and during the house search, some explosive items were recovered and seized accordingly.”
