The Meghalaya cabinet today approved the recommendations of the three regional committees set up by the State government to settle the boundary dispute with Assam in Hahim, Gizang, Tarabari, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pillingkata and Ratacherra.
Similarly, the Assam cabinet which met at Haflong today approved the recommendations of the three regional committees set up by the Assam government to end the boundary row with Meghalaya in the six areas.
The recommendations of the regional committees of Meghalaya and those of the Assam government will be given to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for approval as the inter-state boundary is a central subject.
Later, the proposal will then have to be approved by Parliament as Meghalaya became a full-fledged state in 1972 under the North Eastern Region (Re-organisation) Act of 1971 and then will be ratified by the legislative assemblies of both the states.
