The State cabinet today approved the proposal to relax the upper age limit for entry into government services by five years.
Announcing this decision of the cabinet, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “The age relaxation has been increased from 27 to 32 years and for Scheduled Tribe (ST) another five years will be added and that is 37.”
Sangma however maintained that the age relaxation will not apply to job recruitment in police, forest guards, home guards and civil defence and certain posts in the prisons department.
“The point for uniformed posts that are there which require a slightly more physical work will have the same age limit as before and there will be no change in that,” Sangma said.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the adoption of the National Highways Act for land acquisition and construction of national highways in the State.
According to Sangma, the decision was taken based on the request of the Central government.
He also said that the National Highway Act will be applicable only for national highway projects while for other projects, the normal land acquisition will be applicable.
He also informed that with the approval, the time for land acquisition to be done under the National Highway Act will be reduced from three years to one year.
The cabinet has also approved the policy for Village Health Councils of Meghalaya.
Sangma said that this is being done with the objective of focusing on the health sector at the village level.
He also said that the Village Health Councils will be created along with coordination and cooperation of local headmen.
