The Tyisam Festival, which could not be held all last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, returned to Baghmara, South Garo Hills, today along the banks of the Simsang River.
This year’s celebration is being tied to Meghalaya’s 50th anniversary of statehood. Along with the Tyisam Festival, a District Expo is also going on at the same time to provide opportunities for local businesses to showcase their products.
Other attractions include concerts, beach football, varieties of local cuisine and other cultural events over the course of three days.
The three day long cultural extravaganza will culminate in a grand Golden jubilee celebration of Meghalaya Statehood on 21st January 2022.
The festival was inaugurated by Rongara Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma.
