Veteran journalist, Rajoo Sharma passed away today after a brief illness. He was 59 years old.

Sharma is survived by his wife and son and daughter and grandchildren. His last assignment was with a news portal Hello Shillong and treasurer with the Shillong Press Club (SPC).

He started his career in journalism with Meghalaya Guardian when it was launched. Initially he was in marketing side and then he started writing. He is contributed to both Meghalaya Guardian and Purbanchal Prahari. Subsequently he moved to Eastern Panorama and then started his own paper Eastern Eye. After that he moved to The Northeast Today.

Former Shillong Press Club Vice President, Rajib Chowdhury remembered Sharma a helpful person and ever ready to help his colleagues. He had travelled extensively in the region for his professional activities and was key member in the exhibition cricket match between Press Club and 99 Mountain Brigade at Umroi and had scored brilliantly, though SPC lost the match.

The SPC in an emergent meeting held today, condoled the sudden demise of Sharma. “Bah Rajoo will be remembered for his ever-endearing demeanor and humility though out his life. He was a guiding light to a lot of the journalists who are now well entrenched in their careers. His quiet motivational skills have gone a long way in shaping them into good journalists. His death leaves a void which is unfathomable as to who can refill it again,” the SPC said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and IPR Minister, James Sangma has condoled the demise of Sharma. “Mr. Rajoo was an asset to the media fraternity and his demise is a huge loss to our State,” the CM said.
