Mass exodus of the Congress continues in the State as members of various block committees in the Garo Hills region joined forces with the All India Trinamool Congress.
Political pundits said the emergence of the Trinamool Congress in the state’s political landscape is threatening the existence of the grand old party, which has now surprisingly offered support to the NPP-led government to checkmate the Trinamool Congress.
In the Garo Hills region, Former chief minister Mukul Sangma has been meeting people carrying with him explanations on why he and the other 11 legislators joined forced with the Mamata Banerjee led party which seemed to work out and his (Mukul) assertion, ‘Trinamool Congress flags will flutter across Meghalaya in the next 45 days’ could come true, political observers say.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Congress workers officially joined the Trinamool Congress at Koinadubi, Dalu. These include members from the Block Congress Committee (BCC), Mahila Congress Committee (MCC) and Youth Congress Committee (YCC).
Dr. Mukul Sangma and several other leaders were present at the event.
Earlier yesterday the members of the Block Congress Committee of Rangsakona constituency too joined the AITC at the Domni Gaon community hall.
Addressing the gathering, Nikolson T Sangma, ex-President of BCC, said, “The appointment of ad-hoc committee and sidelining the already existing block committee by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress (MPC) makes it clear that the MPC high command does not trust us. So, it is in our best interest that we join our leader Dr Mukul Sangma and the national party AITC for the better future of our block and hence Meghalaya.”
AITC, Nikolson T. Sangma said, “AITC is a national and pan-India party with a bright future and a strong leader Mamata Banerjee. So, it is the right time to say bye-bye to the Congress and join hands with AITC for a better future, without wasting any time.”
