Police in Ri Bhoi detected and seized 19 illegal coal-laden trucks near Umling last night.
Police said that these trucks were kept hidden in that area and based on a tip off they were seized and taken to Nongpoh police station and cases have been registered as per law.
The seizure comes a week after the Meghalaya High Court directed the district collectors to take action against anybody found involved in illegal mining of coal in the state.
The direction was after the Amicus Curiae informed that there is rampant illegal mining all over the state but little action had been taken by the state.
