Acting quickly after receiving information on dacoit activity, East Garo Hills police were able to apprehend three of five people suspected of waylaying businessmen to loot them of their belongings this evening.
The gang of dacoits had stopped the businessmen at the village of Songkama and snatched their belongings, which included cash and other valuables.
Immediately after being informed of the incident, police teams from Songsak and Dagal reached the spot and managed to nab three of the suspects near Songkama while another two escaped.
Those arrested have been identified as Nengman G Momin, Sengkush G Momin and Bulbirt B Momim, all of whom are residents of Gabil Bisa village.
Police informed that, a few days ago, other members of the public had been looted in a similar manner in the same area and the authorities believe that the same gang were behind that incident.
The three suspects have been brought to Songsak police station for further investigation.
