Following the defection of twelve of its MLAs and in order to stem the tide, the Congress has announced new leaders in some of the constituencies.
In Nongthymmai constituency where sitting legislator Charles Pyngrope had defected to the Trinamool Congress, the grand old party has appointed former minister Robert G. Lyngdoh as the president of the Nongthymmai Block Congress Committee.
In Umroi constituency, the Congress has appointed Pynskhemborlang Sun as the new president of Umroi Block Congress Committee in place of sitting legislator George B. Lyngdoh who has also defected to the Trinamool Congress.
Meanwhile, sitting Congress MLA Process T. Sawkmie has been appointed as president of Shillong City Congress Committee.
