The Ri Bhoi district administration will ramp up vaccination against Covid-19 and has sought cooperation from people especially in the wake of the worldwide alert over the new Omicron variant.
Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah has informed that vaccination dates have been fixed for polling stations under Umling, Jirang and Bhoirymbong blocks from December 6 and 7, December 9 and 10 and December 16 and 17 respectively.
Informing that the district has achieved 56 per cent vaccination for first dose and 36 per cent for the second dose, Kurbah said vaccination reduces fatality and all eligible citizens should get vaccinated especially in view of the onset festive seasons.
In 2020, Ri Bhoi district had recorded 10 Covid related fatalities and 112 this year. “This implies that the variant is stronger in the second wave than in the first wave.
