The autumn session of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) which began today was adjourned to November 8.
The decision was taken after a suggestion by KHADC deputy chairman Alvin Sawkmie for adjournment of the session in view of the upcoming Assembly by-elections in three constituencies of the State.
The suggestion was supported by KHADC Chief Executive Member Titos Chyne who said that the ruling side was in favour of adjournment of the session.
Leader of opposition Pynshngain Syiem also backed the proposal and said that two KHADC members – Pyniaid Sing Syiem and Lamphrang Blah are also contesting the by-elections and will be able to attend the session only after the by-polls are over.
Pyniaid Sing Syiem and Lamphrang Blah are NPP candidates for the Assembly by-elections from Mawryngkneng and Mawphlang constituencies respectively.
The voting for the by-polls will be held on October 30 and counting of votes will be done on November 2.
