In a historic moment for 16 villages around Mawrong, Ri-Bhoi, the long-awaited dream to get a higher secondary school has seen the light of the day today.
Cabinet minister and Mawhati MLA Dasakhiatbha Lamare unveiled the foundation stone for Mawrong Higher Secondary School, which was sanctioned under the centrally-sponsored Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme at Rs 2 crore.
Lamare said that the central government has made literacy as its top priority as education will help eradicate poverty, ignorance and ill health. He also lauded and appreciated the Education Department for its effort in taking up the great task for construction of higher secondary schools in remote areas.
The ceremony was also attended by Jirang legislator Sosthenes Sohtun, Joint Director of School Education and Literacy VS Nongbet, Mawrong Government LP School headmaster Lowis Moksha, teachers and children.
