A man has been arrested by West Khasi Hills police after a complaint was registered accusing him of having raped his biological daughters over a period of time.
The girls are aged 12 and 13. The FIR was filed on October 8 by the girls’ clansmen, who alleged that the accused had raped the sisters in and around their residence in Porla village in the Maweit area.
It has been alleged that the sexual assaults had begun in 2020 and that the girls’ mother and uncle had known about the heinous crimes but had encouraged the children to forgive their father.
After receiving the complaint, the police located the suspect and immediately arrested him. A case has been registered at Nongstoin Police Station.
Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), it is also a crime to fail to report an offence that falls under the act. Therefore, the mother and uncle of the girls are also under investigation. If guilty, they could face up to six months in prison as well as a fine.
