The International Day of Girl Child was observed at Kazi & Zaman College, Bhaitbari, West Garo Hills today.
Organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tura, the theme for this year is “Digital Generation, Our Generation”
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, West Garo Hills, M K Lyngdoh said that the programme aims to create awareness about the issues faced by girls across the globe like discrimination, violence, child marriage, etc, and their importance in society.
She also mentioned about the rights and privileges provided legally to a girl child and also informed about the penalties if anyone violates these provisions.
During the function, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) L W R Marak highlighted the gathering on “Child Trafficking”. The talk on “Teenage Pregnancy” was delivered by Medical Health Officer, Dr. C A Sangma while police officer D C Marak explained in detail about the “POCSO Aact”.
The Vice Principal of Kazi & Zaman College also spoke on the occasion.
Further, the DLSA West Garo Hills, Tura under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority is also organising the Slogan Writing Competition on “Right of a Girl Child” at PAS Police Public School, Tura as part of Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme from October 2 to November 14 as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and Legal Services Week from November 8 to 14.
