Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said the education sector cannot be transformed overnight but the government is working to create a turnaround.
He said with commitment to upscale educational infrastructure and learning facilities, the government has rolled out a programme to create those facilities across the State.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the new building of St Anne’s School in remote Garagre village under South West Garo Hills.
At the function, he also announced to sanction solar light facilities and computer for the school located along the international border with Bangladesh and inaugurated the new building of the school in the presence of Bishop of Tura Rt. Rev. Andrew R Marak and Auxiliary Bishop Jose CJ.
The children of the school presented various cultural and dance numbers and enthralled the gathering.
A celebratory mood was witnessed at the venue, where different speakers lauded the missionaries for their hard work to ensure that the school reaches its milestone today.
The school was funded by various donors with most part of the contribution coming from teenagers from Germany, who collected funds singing Christmas carols.
Bishop Jose thanked Chief Minister for its continued support to missionaries to further the growth of education in the state.
Speaking on the occasion Bishop of Tura reminded the gathering of the words of Late Purno A Sangma, who said that planting humans is the most precious investment that we can make. He said that education is very important for a society to grow and the missionaries in Garo Hills will continue to reach to the nook and corner of the region to impart quality education.
