Water supply will be affected in several areas in Shillong after a pipeline burst at Pomlum village, Upper Shillong, the Executive Engineer (PHE), GSWS Division No-II, Mawphlang informed today.
“Due to the breakdown of 750 mm dia pipeline there will be no water supply till the evening of 16th September, 2021,” the PHE said in a statement.
The affected areas are Shillong Municipal Board areas, Shillong Cantonment Board areas, Nongthymmai and Mawlai.
After commissioning of newly laid 1000 mm dia Gravity Main Line from September 2, the water quality is still turbid which requires the department to revert the supply from the existing 750 mm line. However, the pipeline burst on September 13.
The statement said efforts are on to complete the repair works for restoration of normal water supply by Thursday evening.
