In recognition of the contribution of teachers towards shaping the future of the nation, the state government today marked the 60th State Level Teachers’ Day at a function here.
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister and chief guest Lahkmen Rymbui lauded the dedication of the teaching community of the state, particularly during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, where teachers played a tremendous role in reaching out to the students online.
Acknowledging that teachers face numerous other challenges, such as pay disparity and untimely disbursement of salary, Rymbui reiterated the government’s commitment and continuous effort in addressing these issues.
During the day, state awards were conferred on 13 teachers: Laban Assamese Girls’ Higher Secondary School vice-principal T Swer; head teacher of Raid Ryngi Government Lower Primary School LS Syiemlieh; head teacher of the Government LP School, Nongstoin, M Kharsyntiew; headteacher of Nongmyllam Govt LP School J Kharsyiemlieh; vice-principal of Jowai Public School B Lyngdoh; assistant teacher of Tluh Sec School, Khliehriat, MB Dkhar; assistant teacher of Alpha English HSS, Nongpoh, M Singh; assistant teacher of Bolkinggre Deficit UP School, Williamnagar, AS Marak; principal of Bajengdoba HSS, FK Sangma; assistant teacher of Dadenggre Puri Govt HSS, Tura, L Ch Marak; assistant teacher of Rongkhon Govt LP School, Tura, HM Sangma; principal of Garobadha HSS, Ampati, BA Sangma; and headmaster of Kapasipara Deficit UP School, Baghmara, SC Marak.
District awards were also conferred on St Mary’s HSS assistant teacher LJ Syiem; Nongryngkoh Presbyterian UP School headmaster E Kshiar; Cherra Presbyterian LP School head teacher AV Warjri for the secondary section, upper primary section and lower primary section respectively. A special award for inclusive schools was given to Jyoti Sroat School teacher ME Khongwir. The Best Scoutmaster award was presented to S Chhetri of Gorkha Patshala HSS and Best Guide Captain award went to A Sohtun of Laitumkhrah Assamese Sec School.
Awards for schools under the Meghalaya School Improvement Programme were also awarded under three categories. The award for Implementation of School Improvement plan was given to Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Garo Union Higher Secondary School and Mawngap District Christian Multipurpose Higher Secondary School.
The award for Best Performance District Resource Groups was given to East Khasi Hills, West Jaiñtia Hills and West Garo Hills.
The award for Best Innovative Measures for Continuous Learning during the lockdown period was given to Alpha English HS School, St Xavier’s HS School and Holy Cross HS School.
