The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has advised drivers to remove stones (used as tyre chocks) before driving off after parking, to prevent accidents.
The advisory came after the STP observed that many vehicles, especially commercial vehicles are in the habit of placing boulder stones on their car tyres while parking.
In a statement today Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Shailendra Bamaniya said that such stone are not removed, which invariably becomes vulnerable and hazardous to other road users/pedestrians leading to accidents. Besides, it also causes obstruction to the free flow of vehicular traffic which is an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act, he said.
The STP has therefore urged drivers to avoid such negligence for the safety of other road users and pedestrians.
“If anyone is seen violating the above, they may kindly inform the matter along with the details of the vehicle by contacting 100 / 0364-2215427 / 0364-2222277 or WhatsApp Number – 60091-96479 for taking necessary action,” the STP said.
