Lack of proper drainage along the roadsides left homes and shops of Nongpoh inundated by floodwater after heavy rain lashed the area today afternoon.
Vehicles of all types struggled to make their way through the Ri-Bhoi district headquarters as well as Umlyngkdait village. The absence of proper drainage along the four-lane highway that runs through the district was blamed by residents.
This is a recurring problem for the residents, especially shopkeepers, who saw many of their wares ruined by the rising water.
Despite raising the matter with the government authorities, little has been done to alleviate the problem, village elders Plielad Tiewsoh, S Kharkongor and B Marwein said.
