Residents of Malki comprising pressure groups and others under the umbrella of ‘Sur eh Rngiew ki Nong Malki’ have served the state government a timeframe of one week to suspend all the police personnel who were part of the raid that killed ex-HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on August 13.
Addressing the media today, spokesperson of the umbrella group, J Kharbuli, said that they are with the people of Mawlai in their various demands and they cannot tolerate the silent attitude of the government on the demand made to suspend the police personnel involved.
“The people of the state are not content to date with what had happened on August 13 and we cannot remain a mere spectator to this inhumane act of the government. If the MDA still fails to give us any satisfactory response on this issue, we will also hold a public rally at Malki,” he said, adding that they will wait for a response till September 6.
While the judicial inquiry should complete its investigation, the police also need to be suspended so that the probe can look into the matter impartially and provide satisfactory answers to the public, Kharbuli added.
