Cabinet minister and BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai today met Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt seeking the ministry’s support in granting no objection certificates to allow opening of the defence roads for public use in Shillong city to ease traffic congestion.
Shullai also raised the difficulties faced by Mawshbuit residents, whose only point of entry and exit lies within defence area, and sought for its relocation and allot a free unhindered passage for civilian movement.
He said the local MDC and chairman KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem had also taken up the matter with the Defence Ministry in the past and that the MDC met him before Shullai’s trip to Delhi regarding this pressing matter.
The BJP MLA also apprised him about the lease holders problems of Shillong cantonment area due to the rise in calculated STR of Cantonment Area.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister on Saturday, Shullai requested the Ministry to only implement 0.25 of the STR which will help reduce the cost for the lessees.
A statement from Shullai’s office also informed that the minister also discussed the early implementation of building bye laws and also sought funds for water tank at Jhalupara and to upgrade the Goenka Hospital and Shillong Cantonment School.
