The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) today expressed grave concern over the state of affairs in Meghalaya, with the organization condemning the government and demanding that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong step down. The group also called for the arrest of those police personnel who were involved in the killing of former HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew.
Talking to the media, HNYF vice-president Marcus Marten said that the HNYF slammed the government for failing to handle the situation that arose following Thangkhiew’s death.
Referring to the curfew and internet shutdown imposed since violence erupted, Marten said, “Now with the failure of the government, why will the people suffer? Our people have been suffering a lot due to many restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Now the suspension of internet will adversely affect students who are still depending their education on online classes.”
