Congress legislator Himalaya Shangpliang today questioned the State government’s sincerity in pursuing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Meghalaya.
Shangpliang said that it is now more than 18 months since the Assembly unanimously voted in favour of a resolution to introduce ILP in the state.
“We were assured by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that he will follow up on the matter with the central government and that we will get ILP very soon,” the Mawsynram MLA said.
However, two visits this year by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several visits of the CM and his ministers to New Delhi have apparently failed to bring the introduction of ILP any closer.
“When Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state, everybody was looking forward to a word of assurance or, at least, a word of hope on the matter but this never happened and we have all been left in the dark,” he said. “Why are the state and central governments silent? Are we getting ILP or not?
Demanding that the state government give a clear answer to the people on the subject, he said that he had no idea when voting for the 2019 resolution that it would just go “to waste and have no value.”
