The State government on Saturday has decided to enhance the coverage of treatment for Covid-19 patients under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
Stating it as a “bold move”, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, who is in-charge of the Health and Family Welfare Department, stated that the rates have been enhanced into five categories.
For the first category of patients, who are admitted in the general ward without oxygen, the rate per day has been fixed at Rs. 7000, while the second category of patients who are admitted in the general ward with oxygen, the rate is Rs. 11500 per day, Covid patients admitted in ICU/HDU without ventilators the rate is Rs. 14000 per day, while those in ICU with non-invasive ventilators the rate is Rs. 18000 per day and patients admitted in ICU with invasive ventilators, the rate is Rs. 20000 per day.
Director of Health Services (MI) informed that under MHIS the total amount to treat an individual suffering from Covid-19 has been capped at Rs. 2.8 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh for a family.
Tynsong informed that these rates will be implemented with effect from August 15.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the government has also decided to assist few private hospitals in the State to ramp up infrastructures like Intensive Care Unit and oxygen plants.
It may be mentioned that in May, this year the State government decided to increase coverage of the MHIS from Rs 4,900 up to Rs 60,000 for COVID-19 patients.
