Meghalaya Inspector General of Prisons Mariahom Kharkrang launched ePrison at the Williamnagar District Prison in presence of officials from the National informatics Centre (NIC) yesterday.
ePrison is a web technology-based application software, developed by using the latest tools available with the various functional integrated with it.
In a statement, Kharkrang said the ePrison will help administrators of the state prison department and reduce the burden of the government agencies and duplicity of their efforts.
He also said the technology shall reduce the delay in processing the information. “This will also automate processes and functions convenient and transparent service to all the stakeholders through ICT,” he added.
The inmates’ information shall be made available to all the prisons, police and intelligence and central agencies for various other purposes throughout the state.
NIC has been involved in providing IT support to prisons and has been pioneering in these areas.
