The opposition Congress Party will return to power in Meghalaya and at the Centre because the public are fed up with the “incompetency” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shillong MP Vincent Pala told Highland Post today.
Pala was speaking in reaction to a statement made by the BJP national general secretary on his visit to Meghalaya over the weekend where Arun Singh said that the Congress will be erased from Meghalaya as it already has in other parts of the country.
The BJP, which currently has just two MLAs in the 60-member Assembly, will replace the Congress in the state, he further claimed.
Rubbishing this, Pala said that Congress will definitely return to power both at the central and state levels.
“People have found out the incompetence of the BJP after all these years and they will be comparing it with the Congress Party, which is far better, and will give their verdict,” he said. “Arun Singh visited Shillong for only a few days and said whatever he liked without truly knowing anything before leaving again.”
There appears to be a culture of mistruths and secrets within the saffron party, the MP added, pointing to cabinet minister AL Hek not having a clue that he was to be dropped by the BJP and swapped for Sanbor Shullai until the day it happened and then Shullai one day encouraging Meghalayans to eat more beef than other meats and the next day seeing the BJP take the opposite line. The BJP has also often promised that many members of the Congress are set to defect to the Hindutva outfit but this never comes to pass, Pala concluded.
