Eight villages in Ri-Bhoi along the Meghalaya-Assam border were able to celebrate getting electricity connections for just three days and then have had to go without power for the next three years.
This was informed by the leaders of All Tiwah Union Meghalaya State Committee and Mawhati MDC, Charles Marngar, after the meeting with the relevant Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) officer.
Under the central government’s Saubhagya scheme, the villages (which include Amdubihgat, Amjong and Amphreng) were connected to the grid in 2018 but after just three days of enjoying electricity, they were cut off and have gone without for the next three years.
