The Central government has released Rs 14.82 crore to Meghalaya in the financial year 2020-21 through the National Health Mission (NHM) for management and control of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further, an amount of Rs 1,04,58,276 has been released to Meghalaya as operational fund for Covid vaccination of healthcare workers and frontline workers in the financial year 2020-21.
The Centre is providing all the states and union territories with necessary financial support to check the Covid-19 pandemic under India Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package.
For this package, an amount of Rs 15,000 crore has been approved by the Union cabinet on April 22, 2020.
Under the package, during the financial year 2020-21, funds to the tune of Rs 8257.88 crore have been released to all the states and union territories through National Health Mission (NHM) framework.
This amount also includes Rs 110.60 crore towards payment of insurance of healthcare workers.
Operational funds were also provided to states and union territories for vaccination of healthcare workers and frontline workers under Covid Vaccination Drive in the financial year 2020-21.
Public health and hospitals being a State subject, the primary responsibility of treatment of Covid-19 patients lies with the respective State governments and union territories. They are using their own resources for Covid-19 management including for treatment of the patients.
Besides this, states and union territories are being provided required technical and financial assistance under National Health Mission (NHM) for managing the pandemic.
Further, financial assistance to states and union territories has been given based on the number of cases and trends of Covid-19 pandemic under India Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package.
States and union territories were given flexibility to use the resources available under NHM to prepare the public healthcare system for Covid-19 management.
