The KHNAM State Youth Wing has demanded clear cut answers from the State government on when it will secure Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Meghalaya.
“It is most unlikely that various stakeholders will be given an audience with the Union Home Minister on ILP during his current visit so we strongly demand our Government through our Chief Minister to get a direct answer from Amit Shah, “When will ILP be implemented in the State of Meghalaya?” the youth wing president Thomas Passah said.
Stating that during the last visit of Amit Shah in January 2021 even the State Government did not get an opportunity to discuss the ILP, he said, “We have already celebrated two Christmas after the Meghalaya State Legislative Assembly passed its unanimous resolution on ILP and we are still waiting.”
He said that the Central Governments have totally ignored the ILP demand and the State Government lacks seriousness.
Passah justified that implementation of ILP has been demanded within the purview of Article 19 (5)of the Constitution of India, which clearly states that the State cannot be prevented from operating any existing law nor prevent it from making any reasonable restriction on the rights of movement and rights to settle throughout the territory of India.
