The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme in the State.
A letter with the demanded was submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office today.
The HYC also demanded that Power Minster, James Sangma be relieved from the post for the independent inquiry to carry out a fair probe into the various irregularities and scams in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
“Given the fact that the power Department is also an interested party in the alleged scam and multiple irregularities, it is but fair that the incumbent Power Minister should be relieved of his portfolio,” the HYC said.
The organisation further demanded that former CMD of MeECL Arunkumar Kembhavi should also be removed from the post of Director (Finance), MeECL and not to be appointed in any capacity in the MeECL or its subsidiaries or in the Power Department.
Stating that the implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme in the State is marred with various allegations of corruptions, manipulations and favouritism the HYC said that the State government had time and again refuted and rejected the allegations.
Referring to the interim CAG audit report the HYC said, “The observations made by the office of the CAG is very serious and cast a doubt on the proper and clean implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme in the State and hence requires an investigation by the premiere investigative agency exclusively for the scheme and to initiate appropriate actions as per law against anyone found guilty of an offence.
