Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) donated essential supplies to 500 households in Shella on June 11.
The recipients were identified as those who have been left economically vulnerable by the lockdown that is currently in place in order to stop the spread of the second wave of Covid-19.
Handing over the essential commodities to the secretary of the Shella Dorbar Shnong, LUMPL senior manager Atul Wadettiwar stated that there has been an increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in the village itself, with most households having been affected.
Lafarge thus undertook this distribution as part of its corporate social responsibilities. He also stated that the company has been working very closely with the Dorbar to ensure support for the health and safety of everyone in Shella during the ongoing pandemic.
