The first day of “facilitated walk-in registration” saw a massive response from the public, with nearly 9,500 people receiving a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine today.
Of the 9,487 people statewide, 5,469 got the vaccine in East Khasi Hills alone.
Until today, those members of the public in the 18-44 category had to register online before getting the jab but from today they were able to register on the spot at community session sites.
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner informed that there are 20 vaccination sites in Greater Shillong. The district saw 5,469 people receive their vaccine, including 5,227 (or 96 percent) among the 18-44s. The other 242 were healthcare workers, frontline workers, those 45 years and above.
The other 10 districts saw 4,018 people vaccinated, 3,715 of whom were between 18 and 44 as well as 303 others.
“The active participation and support of the local headmen, CCMT and community volunteers has been instrumental in ensuring an organized and smooth vaccination process. The same strategy will be followed in the coming days,” the East Khasi Hills DC said.
