The death of a pregnant nurse at Ganesh Das Hospital here has caught the attention of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which has asked Chief Secretary M S Rao to submit a detailed report on the matter within ten days.
In a statement issued here today, the MHRC Secretary said the human rights panel has taken cognizance of the complaint filed by the Congress Mahila state president Joplyn Scott Shylla in connection with the death of the nurse Manisha Turnia on May 30.
According to the complaint, the nurse was 24 weeks pregnant. The complaint alleged the negligence and the overzealousness of the hospital authority to disengage Turnia from duties to which she succumbed due to her ill health.
Shylla mentioned that the State health authorities went against the order of May 17, 2021, to disallow pregnant and ailing health workers across the rank from attending critical and emergency duties.
According to Shylla, the deceased nurse had applied for leave explaining her ill-health which was outrightly rejected by the matron in charge of the hospital and the establishment.
Shylla has also requested the MHRC to take action on the matter and bring justice to the deceased nurse.
