      There were 1,183 new Covid-19 infections reported across Meghalaya today, setting a new single-day record. There were also 10 new Covid-related fatalities, four of which were in Garo Hills, a relatively big increase for a region that had only recorded 30 fatalities before today.

      On the first full day of total lockdown, East Khasi Hills logged 656 new cases and Ri-Bhoi 265 – both new record highs. There have also now been 10,081 new infections across the state this month so far.

      Six fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills. Eight out of the 10 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.

      The deceased were identified as Bina Wankhar (74) of Mawlai Umjaiur, Basudev Hajong (70) of Betasing, Pradip Boro (36) of Dhanketi, Elvis Ch Momin (53) of Lower Chandmary, Thallina K Marak (40) of Gonggangre, Masmina Kharbithai (83) of Pohkseh, Bina Mizar (47) of Laban, Edar Khyllep (52) of Mawlong, Balkat D Sangma (30) of Dainadubi and Sijon Dkhar (70) of Pynursla.

      East Khasi Hills accounted for 656 of today’s reported infections, including eight among armed forces/paramilitaries, 115 high-risk contacts, 54 influenza-like illness (ILIs), one health worker, 11 through screening, 19 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), 24 in Dongjewrim, 11 in Golf Links, 28 in Jaiaw, 26 in Laban, 18 in Laitumkhrah, 40 in Mawdiangdiang, 42 in Mawlai, 10 in Mawngap, 13 in Mawprem, 23 in Nongmynsong, 12 in Nongrah, 11 in Nongthymmai, 11 in Khyndailad, 15 in Polo, 15 in Pynthor, 18 in Umpling, 15 in Upper Shillong and 116 in various other neighbourhood clusters.

      Ri-Bhoi reported 265 new cases (two armed forces/paramilitaries, two in Byrnihat, 64 in Domphlang, 107 high-risk, three in Pahamsyiem, seven in Patharkhmah, two in Rangmen, one returnee, two screening, 41 in Umiam, seven in Umran, 21 in Umsamlem, six in Umsar), West Garo Hills 90 (one armed forces/paramilitaries, four in Bhaitbari, seven in Fancy Valley, nine health workers, 19 high-risk, 16 ILIs, 18 in Modynagar, two in Phulbari, one returnee, four screening, nine in Tikrikilla), West Jaintia Hills 53 (29 high-risk, 15 ILIs, six in Panaliar, three returnees), South West Garo Hills 26 (nine in Betasing, six in Dhalupara, two health workers, two high-risk, seven ILIs), West Khasi Hills 26 (three high-risk, five ILIs, six in Kynshi, four in Mairang Mission, three in Nongkasen, five screening), East Jaintia Hills 17 (two high-risk, 11 ILIs, one police personnel, one returnee, two screening), North Garo Hills 17 (two health workers, 10 high-risk, four ILIs, one returnee), South Garo Hills 17 (13 high-risk, three ILIs, one SARI), East Garo Hills nine (four high-risk, five ILIs) and South West Khasi Hills seven (two high-risk, one ILI, four in Mawlangwir).

      There were also 465 recoveries today – 260 in East Khasi Hills, 130 in Ri-Bhoi, 19 in West Garo Hills, 18 in West Jaintia Hills, 11 in West Khasi Hills, 10 in East Jaintia Hills, seven in East Garo Hills, four in South West Garo Hills, three in South Garo Hills, two in South West Khasi Hills and one in North Garo Hills.

      There are now 6,477 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,755 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 823, West Garo Hills 531, West Jaintia Hills 421, South West Garo Hills 254, East Jaintia Hills 223, West Khasi Hills 187 and North Garo Hills 100.

      In all, Meghalaya has had 26,927 Covid-19 cases, of which 6,477 are active, 20,061 have recovered and 389 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 74.50 percent. The fatality rate is 1.44 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 764.43.
