Namdong Public Health Centre (PHC) is equipped with as many as four oxygen cylinders and five beds to cope with the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic but lacks staff and other items.
This was informed by the local unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), which inspected the PHC with Rangbah Shnong DS War and residents.
The KSU said that they were told by the resident doctor, Dr J Laloo, that the facility still lacks enough doctors, nurses, lab technicians, Covid vaccines, oxygen concentrators, etc.
Another difficulty is that some of the PHC’s nurses are currently under quarantine after testing positive for the coronavirus. Nurses from this PHC are often appointed to test high-risk contacts in other villages.
