The state government has issued work orders to set up two 100-bed prefabricated negative pressure Covid-19 facilities, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted today.
One facility will be set up in Shillong and the other in Tura. Sangma said these are expected to be ready by July.
Negative pressure ventilators, like the iron lung, are a type of mechanical ventilator that stimulates an ill person’s breathing by periodically applying negative air pressure to their body to expand and contract the chest cavity.
In a separate tweet, the CM said he had had a telephone conversation with Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to request additional Covid-19 vaccines as the state is currently facing a shortage.
