Iewdielang in Iewduh closed due to breaches

The East Khasi Hills district administration has ordered the closure of the Iewdielang, Iewduh, until further orders.

“The Incident Commander, Zone-IV shall liaise with the Block Development Officers to make necessary arrangements for transportation of vegetables from the growers/farmers directly to the wholesalers during the lockdown period, East Khasi Hills District Magistrate Isawanda Laloo said in her order today.

Laloo said that reports have been received that farmers who use the site to unload and sell vegetables to wholesalers do not follow Covid-19 protocols and social distancing is not being followed and the crowd is particularly difficult to regulate.

      Jowai locality declared containment zone

The Panaliar neighbourhood in Jowai has been declared as a containment zone by the District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills. No one will be allowed to move into or out of the containment zone, and all shops will be closed during the period, the order states. Containment will be in force until further orders.

      Containment order lifted

The office of the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills has lifted the Covid-19 containment order that was imposed on Domjajew, Sumsir and Mawïong villages. The villages were quarantined on May 8.

      Dead body unclaimed

One Mohan Thapa (55) of Lapalang in Shillong, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on April 12 and passed away on May 9.

Relatives of the deceased have been requested to claim the body from the hospital morgue immediately, failing which it will be disposed of by the Shillong Municipal Board.

      Call to open recharge shops

The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has petitioned the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills to allow shops dealing in recharge for mobile phones to reopen.

Access to such shops is required by students taking online classes in order to recharge their internet package. Opening them would also help those who need to register online for the Covid-19 vaccine, it added.
