Another 137 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Meghalaya today, 79 of which were among returnees, taking the total number of infections that the state has seen to over 15,000.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 111 of the new cases – 62 returnees, 15 high-risk contacts, 11 armed forces/paramilitaries, 12 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), six detected through screening, three in Mawlai, one severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and one police personnel.
Ri-Bhoi reported nine cases (seven returnees, two ILIs) and West Jaiñtia Hills seven (four returnees, two in Bakur and one through screening). There were also four new cases in West Garo Hills (three high-risk, one returnee) and West Khasi Hills (three returnees, one through screening) as well as one each in East Jaiñtia Hills and South West Khasi Hills (both returnees).
There were also 34 recoveries, 26 in East Khasi Hills, three each in Ri-Bhoi and West Garo Hills and two in West Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 857 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for618 active cases and West Jaiñtia Hills 119.
In all, Meghalaya has had 15,116 Covid-19 cases, of which 857 are active, 14,105 have recovered and 154 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 93.31 percent. The fatality rate is 1.02 percent. Over 1.84 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Meghalaya as of today.
