With surging Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya, the state government today decided to vigorously pursue its vaccination drive even as the Class 12 board examinations starting April 16 will go ahead as scheduled.
In the backdrop of the sudden spike in coronavirus cases, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma held a meeting to review the situation today.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government has instructed the Health Department to vigorously start vaccinating people who are above 45 years.
“People in this age group should get themselves vaccinated at any cost. The vaccination in government facilities will be free of cost,” Tynsong said.
Over 1.61 lakh doses of the Covid vaccine have already been administered in Meghalaya as of today.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that there are 250 vaccination centres in the state but this number will increase in the coming days for the benefit of the citizens.
He also said that the government has also decided that the Class 12 board examinations starting on Friday will go as scheduled.
“We have also instructed the Education Department that each and every examination centre should ensure all necessary protocols are followed. We request the parents and students not to have any doubts and to go to respective centres for examination happily and safely,” Tynsong said.
On the Class 10 examinations starting April 19, Tynsong said that the government will again sit to review the situation.
Meanwhile, the Deputy CM also informed that, due to the increase in cases, the government has decided to reactivate various Covid bodies, from the level of Deputy Commissioners right down to the Dorbar Shnong level.
“We have decided that the committees are immediately reactivated because for almost a year the government has been fighting (the coronavirus) along with the community and local authorities, which was successful,” he added.
