Social media was abuzz today morning surrounding an incident that took place in West Garo Hills last night, which was suspected, at first, of being a case of molestation.
According to police sources, policemen on naka duty found a woman shouting inside a moving car and, thinking it could be a criminal case, the two cars in the party were stopped and the occupants taken to the nearest police station in Jengjal. Two of those were workers of a particular political party.
The women present, however, then told the police that they were just having an argument between friends. The women involved are reportedly residents of Jengjal and the men from Tura.
Despite being dealt with, the incident became a massive talking point on social media the following day, with many believing that the police had hushed up the event given that the men work for a political party.
“We have taken the written statements of the girls who said that they were friends with the two men and knew them from before. It was only an argument and nothing more had taken place. The matter was resolved between them. We have observed all formalities and the two men were allowed to leave only after a medical was done to confirm that nothing criminal took place,” confirmed a highly-placed police source.
Netizens, however, did not heed the explanation of the police, with many seeking an investigation into the incident. Some even sought for a probe to be undertaken by the Women’s Commission to get to the bottom of the matter.
