The state government’s Integrated Transport Sector Development Project will transform Meghalaya into a high-income state by improving connectivity in the transport network while also providing better access to healthcare, tourist spots and markets, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said today in the Assembly.
The project, which was received approval from the Department of Economic Affairs, will require funding of $300 million (Rs 2,176 crore) spread across two phases.
The first phase of $150 million will require funding of $30 million (Rs 217 crore) from the state government, with the rest funded by the World Bank, the CM informed the house.
The project aims at improving transport by addressing key missing links, providing viable alternative transport solutions and positioning Meghalaya as a connecting hub for international trade.
Sangma stated that the project will also focus on last-mile connectivity to remote villages, urban infrastructure and tourist transport intervention.
