The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions and Associations (MJCTUA) has come out in support of the two-day strike by public sector bank employees in protest of the central government’s plans to privatize two state-owned banks.
Members of the Meghalaya unit of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) today joined the all-India strike. The Meghalaya unit held its protest on the premises of the State Bank of India’s main branch here today.
In a press release, the MJCTUA urged the Centre to “roll back its decision to privatize public sector banks”.
In her presentation of the central government’s budget recently, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that two nationalized banks will be privatized as part of the government’s disinvestment plan.
