Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that the medicines available at the store of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadi Kendra (PMBJK) at NEIGRIHMS here are cheap and of good quality and this facility should reach everyone in the State.
He was speaking during the inauguration of the PMBJK centre at NEIGRIHMS here which was attended by Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (Independent Charge) Mansukh Mandaviya and State Health Minister A L Hek.
Sangma added that medicine supplies are low and often expensive and hence the medicines available through these stores will benefit all, especially the weaker sections of society and those who require medicines regularly.
“A holistic approach to healthcare is the way forward and we look forward to opening more such stores across the State,” he said.
Also addressing the gathering, Mandaviya said that these stores can also be opened with the collaboration of private hospitals and NGOs. He assured all support from the Centre for those wishing to open such stores.
He added that there should be awareness among the people about these stores so that people will benefit and procure quick, regular and cheap medicines.
Jan Aushadhi Diwas (Generic Medicine Day) is organised every year on March 7 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacting with store owners and beneficiaries through video conferencing at selected PMBJK stores this year.
The Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, an initiative of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, is an endeavour to provide quality medicines at affordable prices for all. The medicines are cheaper by 50 per cent to 90 per cent of average market prices.
