A day after a 25-year-old woman was found dead inside her house in Umdang village police on Tuesday arrested her husband on the alleged charges of murder.
West Khasi Hills district police said the accused, Arius Nianglang had confessed to continued physical assault of his wife, Serilis Rongrin.
According to police, Rongrin was found dead on Monday at around 1 am. Following an enquiry from relatives and villagers, police said it was suspected that she was murdered by Nianglang as he used to ill-treat her when he is under the influence of alcohol.
Nianglang who broke the door and fled from the house after the murder, was arrested from a nearby village at 12 pm today while trying to evade arrest, police said.
“All legal formalities will be observed and the investigation is on to prove the facts of the case,” district SP, Herbert G Lyngdoh said.
