The members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will seek an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the latter’s visit to Meghalaya next month to discuss the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne said that during Shah’s brief Shillong visit in January, the KHADC members were asked to submit a memorandum to the Home Minister, which Chyne felt was irrelevant as they wanted to meet Shah in person. Shah, however, did not hold discussions on ILP with anyone during his whistle-stop tour.
Meanwhile, Chyne informed that the KHADC is not receiving any funds from the Umling entry-exit gate in Ri-Bhoi.
“The KHADC only gave its consent to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi in 2017 to set up the facilitation centre after the no-objection certificate was issued by the traditional heads from the area after a proper survey conducted by officers of concern departments,” he added.
Meanwhile, the CEM, who is a member of the high-level committee on the Them Ïew Mawlong resettlement of Sikhs issue, said that the committee is in the final stages of submitting its report to the state government.
